Proven, Soybeans Lower Cholesterol

David JA Jenkins, MD of St. Michael's Hospital and University of Toronto conducted experiments to compare the two types of diet for 6 months.

The study was conducted at four academic centers in Canada that Quebec City, Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver were randomized between June 2007 and February 2009.

Participants received dietary recommendations for 6 months, ie a diet low in saturated fat and bean-protein diet.

The researchers found that groups with bean-protein diet decreased LDL cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein) by 13 percent. While they are on a diet low in saturated fat decreased by only 3 percent. Research results published in the August 2011 issue of JAMA.
